Nikica Jelavic, Everton FC

NIKICA JELAVIC promised “goals, goals and more goals” when he signed for Everton FC from Glasgow Rangers in January.

But the confident Croatian admits that even he has been surprised by his instant goals return in Royal Blue.

After 11 goals in 16 appearances – just 13 of them starts – Jelavic admitted that his flying start to life at Goodison Park was unexpected.

“I’m a little bit surprised. Honestly,” he smiled.

“I expected five or six goals. I said to myself five or six goals will be great, but this is a huge step and I’m delighted.”

And Jelavic, named in Croatia’s initial squad for this summer’s European Championships by former Everton defender Slaven Bilic, immediately paid tribute to the support he had received from his Goodison team-mates.

“I’m delighted – 11 goals in 14 or 15 games, that’s great,” he added. “But without the boys, without Ossie (Leon Osman) and Steven (Pienaar) and Felli (Fellaini) and the team, I’d have had no chance. We have a good squad and I’m very happy.

“When I signed I said I’d try my best to score many goals as possible and I think the last three months have been good for me, and the team as well.
