Arteta 460

AFTER what has been a disappointing few days, there is no time for Everton FC to rest, as Arsenal visit Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

Blues fans, of course, will be looking forward to that contest, as I’m sure Arsenal’s number 8 will be.

It will be Mikel Arteta’s first visit to Goodison since he left the club back in August, and he will be a key part of Arsene Wenger’s side as they look to secure what would be an important three points in their quest for Champions League football.

I’m sure Mikel will, in the back of his mind, have one or two doubts as to what kind of reception he will be granted by the Everton supporters.

He needn’t.

Evertonians are always respectful. You only had to look at the applause given to Simon Mignolet, the Sunderland goalkeeper, by the Gwladys Street on Saturday to see that.

They are no different with ex-players. Provided they have treated the club with respect, and not made life difficult, then they will be afforded respect from Evertonians in return.

Mikel deserves a standing ovation on Wednesday night, and I am sure he will get it.

He had some great years at Goodison, gave some great service to the club and will have a lot of fantastic memories of his time on Merseyside.

We have almost run out of Everton posters (including signed posters).
