Everton Fc, Manager, David Moyes

THERE’S a train of thought doing the rounds amongst some Everton FC fans that we lost the semi-final on Saturday because David Moyes was too negative with his tactics.

I had a few texts after the game expressing that view, while the same opinion was aired on the phone-in.

But I don’t share it.

I don’t think we were necessarily negative after we had taken the lead, I just think that Liverpool took the game to us.

We don’t like giving credit to Liverpool on the blue half of Merseyside, but on this occasion we have to.

I believe Saturday’s result was more down to what Liverpool did than what we failed to do.

They got the momentum from the 46th minute when Andy Carroll nodded that chance wide and never lost it again.

And the biggest reason for that wasn’t tactics, it was simply that too many players on the day didn’t perform to the levels they have shown in recent weeks.

I think if the lads are honest with themselves, and they all are, some of them will hold their hands up and say that they didn’t get going on the day.

It wasn’t Everton sitting back or trying to hold what we had, it was just too many players not performing when it mattered most.
