Former Everton FC midfielder Bobby Collins has passed away.

The club confirmed the 82-year-old Scottish player has died.

Collins made 147 appearances for the Blues and scored 48 goals during his four year stint at Goodison Park between 1958-1962.

The former Celtic man was sold to Leeds United in ’62 and ex-Everton coach Jimmy Lumsden says he was pivotal in the Yorkshire side’s revival under Don Revie.

“He made Leeds United and I know that he was a big loss to Everton at the time,” Lumsden said a few years ago.

“I would say that he was Don Revie’s best ever signing because he lifted Leeds out of the Second Division and into the First.

“He then became the Footballer of the Year and led Leeds to the FA Cup final. He was a fantastic professional and a great player.”

Everton tonight tweeted: “All at Everton Football Club are saddened to learn of the passing of former midfielder Bobby Collins.”
