John Stones is targeting a return to the England squad in time for their Euro qualifier in March.

The Everton FC centre-half is fully fit again after missing a chunk of the season through injury.

Stones suffered ankle ligament damage in October at Old Trafford but is now back at the heart of the Blues defence.

The 20-year-old has started the last three games for Everton and Stones hopes to soon earn a recall to the England set-up.

Roy Hodgson’s men welcome Lithuania to Wembley on March 27 in a Euro 2016 qualifier and Stones, who has four caps, is itching to be back in the national picture

“The target is definitely to get back into the England squad,” he said.

“I was absolutely gutted when my injury came about and then very next day after I was supposed to meet up with England.

“I was devastated because I had just got in and I was hopefully going to get some more caps and game time with them, so my aim is definitely to play well for Everton and hopefully get called up again for those games.”

Stones, meanwhile, says being able to tap into the experience of his club and international team-mate Phil Jagielka has been vital to his development.

“It’s hard to describe how good it is for me and for the other players to have Phil around,” said Stones.

“As a young lad, coming in and playing with such an established international player and with all the things that he’s done, it’s fantastic, and the list of things I can learn from him is endless.

“I can’t thank Jags enough for what he has done for me and that goes for a lot of my other teammates at the back, who have helped me through a lot of games.

“I try to put my own stamp on things as well but I’m still learning from the likes of Jags, Sylvain [Distin] and all the other defenders here all the time.”
