Sources at Sky Sports say Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea for pre-season training and fight for his first-team place.
While Everton have not given up hope of luring their former loan man back on a permanent basis, the Belgian could end up back at Stamford Bridge following his post-World Cup break.
Sky also say Everton have asked about taking Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on loan. The Ghana international spent last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in Holland and could be loaned out again.
Everton are keeping tabs on James Milner’s situation at Manchester City, according to The Mirror.
While Liverpool are being strongly linked to the England man, the Blues are also thought to be interested – along with Arsenal and Aston Villa.
Milner, 28, is frustrated at only being a bit-part player for City.
