Debbie Smaje: David Moyes got his priorities wrong putting the FA Cup before the derby

ANOTHER season, another bottle job at Anfield.

And in David Moyes’s 10th year, that is becoming one of his legacies. No other manager would be allowed to accept going into our biggest derby, make six changes, and put in an abject half-hearted ‘performance’ like we did on Tuesday. All in the name of ‘prioritising’ the FA Cup game.

Moyes got his priorities wrong, as it is simply not acceptable to give up in the derby.

Liverpool have a quarter-final this weekend too; they rested their players against Sunderland because they know how important the derby always is. Our attitude showed utter contempt for the 3,000 Everton fans who paid nearly £50 to watch that humiliation. We know how important Sunderland is, but the derby is not just any league game you can choose to throw away. It’s as if we just turned up, content to get thumped as long as nobody got injured.

Tony Scott: David Moyes is looking at the bigger picture

STEVEN GERRARD has been brilliant for Liverpool.

He was the difference between a fully-fit Liverpool and a weakened Everton side. Now David Moyes has taken some unnecessary stick for his team choice in the derby and had to rest players for Saturday, whether fans paid £48 for a ticket or not.

Nobody forces you to go but I’m sure a win on Saturday and the same set of fans will be living it up at Wembley Stadium in a month’s time. Both Manchester squads are the biggest in Europe and even they have recently proved how hard it is to play three big games in eight days.

Within the last month we’ve beaten Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City and there’s possibly a semi-final to go with all that. Moyes is looking at the bigger picture not the bragging rights for a months. I know which one I prefer.
