Everton FC supporters can today begin to vote on which of three designs they want as their new club crest.

After an exhaustive consultation process which received the feedback of more than 20,000 fans, an independent design team working for the Blues has created a trio of different badges – one of which will become the next official crest for the 2014/15 season.

The crests, which have been unveiled on the club’s official website, can be voted on from midday today (Monday) on the club website, and any supporters with a valid customer number through past ticket purchases or club membership can have their say.

Evertonians were asked to come together and help the club establish an instantly recognisable and modern representation of what their club stands for.

From websites to smartphones, to television, the side of the Main Stand and the royal blue kit, the plan was to eventually settle on a design which can work on all formats, chosen by fans.

The club’s official breakdown of the design process for fans states: “Through the surveys and focus groups that have taken place over the last few weeks it is clear what is most important to include in the club crest.

‘The clear priorities of the majority of fans are inclusion of the Tower and Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.’

The voting window will remain open until 11.59pm on Tuesday October 1 and the next Everton crest will be revealed on Thursday October 3.

Option One rationale

This option strongly reflects the club’s heritage and status as an authentic, respected football club. It brings together the key icons of the club’s tradition – the tower, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum and the shield, rendered in the strongly preferred club colours of royal blue and white.

The design is modern and clean but with a strong element of tradition, reflecting the most preferred previous club crests whilst being easier to use across the range of modern media.

The tower design has been modernised in line with the strong feedback from the consultation, the shield shape streamlined and the name Everton included in a strong font with an element of tradition.

The ‘scroll’ has been retained to hold ‘Nil Satis Nisi Optimum’ but has been attached firmly to the shield to prevent it being easily removed when used by partners, and much simplified to achieve impact.

Because the design allows it, both 1878 and the wreaths have been retained.

Overall this is a simpler, neater presentation to meet modern day challenges whilst retaining the strong heritage so important to the club and its supporters.

Option Two rationale

This option prioritises the prominence of the club name, Everton.

Again, the tower design has been modernised, shield shape streamlined and the name Everton included in a strong font with an element of tradition.

The Latin motto, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum is brought within shield, which in this option contains all the key elements of the crest to allow neatness of presentation and support consistency of application when the crest is used across different media and when used by partners.

The inclusion of 1878 reinforces the club’s proud status as one of only 12 founding members of the Football League, demonstrates heritage and was chosen as the additional element on this design as it is slightly preferred to the wreaths in the survey.

Rendered again in the much-preferred royal blue and white but with the addition of amber for the outline of the shield.

Option Three rationale

This option retains the shield as the core shape for the crest but presents it in a new, sleeker, more modern way.

The most iconic elements of the club’s rich heritage are featured, namely the Tower and Nil Satis Nisi Optimum.

The Latin motto, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, is again brought within shield but this time running more prominently across the top.

Like option two, this option contains all the key elements of the crest within the shield to allow neatness of presentation and support consistency of application across different media and when used by partners.

This design also provided the opportunity to retain both 1878 and the wreaths whilst remaining sleek and modern.
