Everton FC fans are disappointed with their start to the season, and have realigned their hopes in response, according to our fan survey.

88.5% of Evertonians voted that the team was performing worse than they expected, compared to just 10% of fans that said they expected an opening such as this. The Blues have won just one of their opening seven Premier League games. 1.5% of fans voted that the Toffees were performing better than expected.

According to our survey, Toffees fans now believe that Everton will finish as low as 10th place. 20.60% of fans voted that the Blues would finish mid-table. 20.41% of fans said the Blues would finish 9th and 19% of fans believe they could finish 7th.

Just 3.5% of fans think that the Blues will finish in fifth position.

Before the season kicked off, 33% of Evertonians believed the Blues would finish fifth with just over 1% of fans who voted believing that Roberto Martinez’s men would finish in 10th spot. 24.5% of fans thought that Everton could get into fourth place and 23.6% of fans voted for seventh position.

Unfortunately, performances on the pitch haven’t always matched the results for Martinez’s side. Everton fans indicated that the best Premier League performance of the season came in the second game, at home to Arsenal, when the Blues led 2-0 but only managed to get a point after the Gunners battled back to draw 2-2.

But the overwhelming favourite among Blues for the best performance of the season was the 4-1 victory over Wolfsburg in the Europa League.

Steven Naismith was chosen as Everton’s best performer so far this term, edging out John Stones who will now miss up to four months with ankle ligament damage.

Tim Howard and Romelu Lukaku were singled out as the two players that Everton fans have been least impressed with this term, with Aiden McGeady and Sylvain Distin also receiving many votes.

Almost 55% of Everton fans voted Gareth Barry as Martinez’s best summer signing, with Muhamed Besic in second place with just over 30% of the vote.

Christian Atsu, on loan from Chelsea, was voted as the Blues’ worst signing of the season. He got 47% of the vote. Lukaku, meanwhile, is yet to impress after joining in a club-record £28m deal. He got 42% of the vote for worst signing.

Unsurprisingly, the best goal of the season came from the right boot of Phil Jagielka. His half-volley in the Merseyside derby got almost 92% of the supporter’s vote, with McGeady’s opening day strike at Leicester in second place with just 4.5% of the vote.
