Johnstone has made four appearances since joining Scunthorpe
Scunthorpe United are hopeful of extending the loan spells of Everton defender Shane Duffy and Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Duffy’s initial month’s deal ends this week, with Johnstone’s loan due to finish in two weeks.
Iron boss Alan Knill told BBC Radio Humberside: “We’re trying with Shane and the keeper as well.
“We’re doing exactly what they (the parent clubs) want us to do which is play them.”
Knill continued: “We’ve spoken with Manchester United and they’re OK.

“The idea was with Everton that Shane came and played in a competitive first team that was doing okay and hopefully that would bring him on.” Knill added.
Along with fellow loanee Oliver Norwood, the trio have impressed the Iron boss.
“All the loans are excellent players,” he said. “Ollie’s such a good kid, he wants to be better and is the last off the training ground and every now and then you just see some quality there.
“The keeper as well, he’s absolutely top-drawer for 18 and he looks a modern goalkeeper.”
Johnstone and Duffy have both made four appearances for the Iron, whilst Norwood has played six times.
