Kevin Mirallas and James McCarthy both have a “great” chance of featuring in Everton’s festive fixtures this week, according to Roberto Martinez.

The Blues welcome Stoke City to Goodison Park on Boxing Day and then go to Newcastle United two days’ later as they look to give their stuttering season a shot in the arm.

“Kevin Mirallas has got a great chance to be involved over the next two games,” Martinez said.”We don’t know yet if the Stoke game is going to be too early but he has an opportunity, which is fantastic news.

“James McCarthy is very similar to Kevin. I do think he will be involved one way or another over the next two games.“

Roberto Martinez: “There’s a lot to play for, a lot of points to fight for. We are constantly trying to assess the team’s journey. We are trying to accumulate as many points as you can and once you get to the last international break you can see where you are and focus what you have to do in the league. I’m looking back on the 17 games and apart from the Southampton performance, we’ve been in every single game.”
