Bryan Oviedo has vowed to continue to make the most of any opportunities that come his way.

Oviedo responded to being handed a start against Stoke on Saturday by providing a goal and an assist as well as helping the Blues keep a clean sheet in the 4-0 cruise.

His only previous Premier League start came in midfield but with games against Manchester United and Arsenal next week, the Costa Rican could further enhance his standing, with Leighton Baines injured for up to six weeks.

Oviedo said: “I am very happy to have scored my first goal in the Premier League and also to play my first game at left-back.

“I’m also happy that the team played well today. This is a very good chance for me. Leighton is a great player but I have waited a year and a half for this chance and I am so happy to play again.”

There was much discussion over who Roberto Martinez would turn to to cover for Baines but Oviedo would now appear to be in the box-seat to feature at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

“I think the coming games are a good opportunity to play for the team and make the most of my chance,” he continued.

“The team is a strong team and a good group. They are all good guys and good players.”

And Ovideo also reserved kind words for man of the match Gerard Deulofeu after the win over the Potters.

He added: “He is a good player and a good guy. He’s very fast and it’s difficult to mark him. When he has space it’s very dangerous for the other team. We are happy to have a player like him.”
