Leighton Baines

Baines scored his second goal of the season against Wolves on Saturday

Everton defender Leighton Baines hopes Saturday’s 2-1 win over Wolves will be the catalyst to propel his team up the Premier League table.

The Blues are 12th going into Sunday’s game with Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.

“It’s just one win but hopefully it starts to loosen us up a little bit,” Baines told BBC Radio Merseyside.

“If we can keep getting wins like that we’ll be happy and if we can start to play better somewhere along the way, we’ll be even happier.”

He added: “We were down at the bottom and now things look a lot better. I’m sure it looked a bit tentative and a bit nervous against Wolves.

“It wasn’t conducive for the best football but we got the win and that’s all that matters at the moment. Hopefully the three points eases the pressure because anything other than that wouldn’t have done.”

It’s exciting for us to have people like them playing in wide positions. Wingers like him and Seamus Coleman excite the fans

Leighton Baines on Royston Drenthe and Seamus Coleman

Before Everton’s victory over Wolves at the weekend, David Moyes’s team had recorded just one win in their last six Premier League games.

Despite the results going against the Blues, the performances of midfielder Royston Drenthe had been giving the fans something to cheer about.

Drenthe moved from Real Madrid to Goodison Park on loan in August, and Baines agrees the Netherlands international offers his side a different threat.

“He’s an animated character on the pitch,” the England man continued. “He works really hard and he gets people off their seats.

“It’s exciting for us to have people like him playing in wide positions. Wingers like him and Seamus Coleman excite the fans. It’s good for us in terms of putting people on the back foot as well.

“They’re the two we’re looking to do something a little bit different. They both played really well against Wolves.”
