EVERTON FC are likely to resist attempts by Saudi club Al Nassr to sign Tim Cahill this summer – with the midfielder still considered a key part of David Moyes’ plans.

Cahill has been linked with a move to the super-rich Middle East club, after reports surfaced claiming they were ready to boost their global profile by signing the Australian international.

But the 32-year-old, who made 41 appearances for the Toffees last term, is not deemed surplus to requirements by Moyes, who still rates his flexibility and goal threat as significant assets.

“He’s fit, he’s athletic, he can do several jobs for us,” said Moyes, speaking before the end of the season, prior to leaving Cahill on the bench for the final game of the season, a 3-1 win over Newcastle United.

“There’s been a couple of games where we’ve been able to change and rest him because we’ve had a fully fit squad.

“But Tim’s been the mainstay of the way we’ve played.

“There’ll be a time when we have to move on and that will evolve, but not at the moment.

“I think he’s still got a two or three-year contract and he’ll still be a big part of what we do.”
