Sylvian Distin, Everton FC
SYLVAIN DISTIN has backed Everton FC’s defensive resilience to remain next season – regardless of whether the club can buy new players this summer.
The 34-year-old defender contributed to the Blues having the third meanest rearguard in the Premier League last term, with only Manchester City and Manchester United conceding fewer goals.
And Distin, who signed a new one-year contract extension earlier this month, is confident that useful trait will not be affected, even if David Moyes is unable to add further attacking flair via the transfer market.
He said: “I think there were only two teams that conceded fewer goals than us and they were the two teams fighting for the title. I think that was an amazing achievement.
“It’s too early to talk about it. It all depends on who is going to come, who is going to stay, who is going to go.
“We know we won’t spend millions and if we are more or less in the same situation as last season, then we’ll have to deal with what we’ve got. I think we’ve done pretty well. The stats are there for us.”
Distin was voted players’ player of the season at Goodison, but has equal admiration for his colleagues in the back four.
