Everton FC boss Roberto Martinez will have to pay £5million up front to be reunited with want-away Wigan striker Arouna Kone.

In other Everton FC transfer news, Manchester United are set to make an improved £16m bid for Leighton Baines in the hope of luring him to Old Trafford.

Everton last week rejected a £12m offer for the England defender, with chairman Bill Kenwright keen to keep him at Goodison.

The Blues defender has been photographed at last weekend’s Glastonbury Festival, posing for pictures alongside friend and musician Miles Kane and Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner.

Meanwhile, former Everton target Moreirense striker Nabil Ghilas is to join Porto as Blues youngster Matthew Pennington has put pen to paper on a two year professional contract.

Meanwhile, Everton reserve-team boss Andy Holden has been sacked – the first major casualty of the new manager’s reign.

Holden, 50, who has been at Goodison for almost 20 years, got the chop as Martinez started shaping his own staff, making way for new arrivals such as his old Wigan assistant, Graeme Jones.
