Everton FC will step up their interest in Aiden McGeady early next week – with a £4million bid.

Spartak Moscow are resigned to cashing in on the Republic of Ireland winger, who is in the final year of his contract.

McGeady claimed in Moscow last week that he has no plans to leave, but does want a move to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Everton have failed in a bid to take Juventus midfielder Luca Marrone on loan.

Reports in Italy suggest that Roberto Martinez had wanted to bring the 23-year-old to Goodison Park next term on a season-long loan, only for Juventus to insist upon a permanent deal.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Juventus would be willing to listen to offers in the region of £9m for the tough tackling midfielder, who can also play in defence.

Everton certainly appear to be in the market for a defensive midfielder, having also been linked with a move for PSG’s Momo Sissoko in recent days, but it seems unlikely that Martinez would be in a position to spend the sort of money Juventus are asking on a single player.

Everton are also rumoured to have made a bid for Hellas Verona youngster Jorginho, with the £7.8m fee thought to include a number of performance-related clauses.

Finally, Everton players were star-struck when they bumped into a Hollywood superstar in their Beverly Hills hotel.  Bourne trilogy actor Matt Damon was at the hotel to promote his new sci-fi blockbuster Elysium when he was met by Leon Osman, Leighton Baines and Kevin Mirallas.
