MAROUANE FELLAINI’S attacking instinct could see him become Everton FC’s long-term successor to Tim Cahill, says David Moyes.

The Belgian international has mostly been played in a holding defensive role for Everton, but was deployed further forward towards the end of the season to impressive effect.

It meant the 24-year-old formed a dangerous attacking partnership with Nikica Jelavic, and Moyes says it bodes well for the future.

He said: “Marouane is probably seen as more of a defensive midfield player. But he’s far better when he’s joining in and getting forward because he can do a bit of everything.

“But I’ve always known that Marouane can do that job. We had just been looking at the right time to do that.”
