Paul McAllister: Once fit, Darron Gibson must return into Everton FC’s starting line-up

FRUSTRATION I’m sure was the main feeling this past weekend as we came away from the DW Stadium with just one point and not three.

Kevin Friend certainly didn’t do us any favours with his patchy officiating, but if we wish to stay near the top echelons of the Premier League then we need to be sweeping teams like Wigan aside.

Hopefully our unsung hero Darron Gibson will be fit enough to return in time for our trip to QPR.

It’s imperative he comes straight back into the side in place of Phil Neville.

Our skipper, together with Leon Osman in the centre, is a partnership that doesn’t cut it. We’ve managed to get away with it for the last few weeks but we’ve also conceded some very soft goals.

With Gibbo back to tighten things up we should be able to add to QPR’s misery with another away master-class.

James Campbell: Everton FC deserved at least a draw and perhaps a win at Wigan Athletic

WE have started poorly in two successive Premier League games.

Johnny Heitinga just couldn’t cope with the pace and power of Kone, while Phil Neville struggled in to get to grips with who he was marking in his centre-midfield role.

But a with the help of a half-time sub, a small switch of tactics and more importantly a change in attitude we saw a different outcome in the second period. We finally got at Wigan and deserved at least a draw, perhaps a win if it wasn’t for the referee.

So we now go into another international break, quickly followed by a trip to QPR.

Away games are never easy in the Premier League, but if we have Gibson back in the centre midfield and play with the same attitude as the second half at Wigan, we will hopefully have another three points in the bag before we welcome Liverpool.
