Kevin Mirallas signs for Everton FC

DAVID MOYES believes Kevin Mirallas brings a major goal threat to the Everton FC ranks – as it emerges Marouane Fellaini gave the manager a ringing endorsement of his fellow countryman.

The 24-year-old forward has completed a transfer from Greek side Olympiakos, putting pen to paper on a four year deal.

Mirallas joins Steven Pienaar and Steven Naismith as Everton’s summer recruits and like those two, Moyes says the Belgium international offers the team flexibility.

However Mirallas will not be able to face Manchester United this evening as all players had to be registered by 12pm on Friday for them to be eligible for the game.

And when the new addition is ready to make his Blues’ bow, Moyes has warned not to expect too much too soon as Mirallas gets used to the Premier League.

“He’ll hopefully add a bit of quality to the squad, give us some more options and we need him,” said Moyes.

“We’ve lost one or two players so we’re delighted to get Kevin in.

“He’s scored a lot of goals in the last couple of years in Greece so I’m hoping that he brings some goals to the team. With his versatility – being able to play from the right, through the middle or from the left – it will give us options to change in the games and bring him on in different positions.

“He’ll be a good addition to the squad, he’s got a track record, he was an exceptional talent in Greece where he scored a lot of goals and was very exciting over there.

“It’s a different game to come and do it in the Premier League, as everybody is well aware, so that’s where we have to have a bit of patience and make sure everybody is aware not to get their expectations too high too quickly. I’ll do that, I’ll try to ease him in.

“We’ve still got to find out a little bit about him, we’ve got to give him a chance to settle in, we’ve got to find out where we think he’s going to be best suited, but I think his versatility is something we need here and we’re pleased to have him.”

Moyes went to Fellaini, who has played alongside Mirallas for their national team, to ask him for an informed opinion of the forward.

Everton’s record signing had a glowing report ready for this manager.

“Last week or two weeks ago he asked me what I thought about him,” said Fellaini.

“I told him he was a good player, a good dribbler, he’s quick, a good finisher and I said I hoped he could come here because he could help the team. He can keep the ball, take people on, cross the ball, score goals, so I think he will be good for the team.

“He’s a quick player, with good technique, good dribbling ability, last year he was top scorer (for Olympiakos) and I think he is a player who will excite the fans. I hope so.”
