Distin lauds Osman aerial prowess

Everton defender Sylvain Distin has praised Leon Osman’s aerial ability after he headed the winner in the 2-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday.

The midfielder, 29, is not known for his aerial ability but notched an impressive header against City.

Distin told BBC Radio Merseyside: “I play against him every day in training and Ossie is really good in the air.

“He’s a small player but he can jump, he’s got a good spring. You should never underestimate him.”

Everton now sit five points ahead of Bolton in seventh place after victory over Roberto Mancini’s team at the weekend.

However it needed a turnaround in the second half as David Moyes’ side were 1-0 down at half time.

The Frenchman acknowledged the introduction of Jermaine Beckford and Tim Cahill improved the performance, but says his equaliser lifted the spirits at Goodison as well.

“I would like to say my goal made the difference but it was a mix of everything, ” he continued.

“At half time we had a few words from the manager as well, that wakes you up. We all knew we had to do much better.

“The players who came on as well [made a difference], it wasn’t just one thing that changed the game.”

After struggling for form in the opening half of the season, the Blues have only suffered defeat twice in their last 12 games, and Distin says it is down to the clubs’ team spirit.

“There’s a good group of lads here,” Distin added. “It’s not only the games but it’s more the training every day.

“The game is what you aim for when you train hard, but I do enjoy it here and we’ve a good atmosphere and a good group of guys. That helps me feel better on the pitch.”
