IF there was a revolution, it would start in Liverpool – Ken Loach.

THE celebrated director was plugging his latest film when he made the above statement.

He was absolutely spot on.

But he qualified it with the adjoinder: “The city is full of very articulate, thoughtful people and it’s always a joy to be there – I always feel connected because the people make you feel welcome.”

I’d agree with the revolutionary fervour.

But articulate? Thoughtful? Welcome?

The city of Liverpool might well be full of those types of people.

But they don’t inhabit cyberspace.

Not judging by the vile contents of my Twitter account this week.

Not according to message board postings.

And I’m just a local newspaper columnist who, according to some critics, hadn’t written a story I should have.

Quite what the response would have been had I actually written something they disagreed with I’m not so sure.

Probably the same kind of reaction Sylvain Distin received for making the day of a group of young children at Finch Farm on Monday.
