Ladies Day event to be named after Everton in the Community.

One of the races at this year’s Grand National festival is to be named in honour of Everton in the Community.

The Everton in the Community – Topham Chase will form part of the Ladies Day racecard on Friday thanks to a unique link-up with Halewood International, owners of Grand National festival sponsors, Crabbie’s.

In recognition of the sterling work carried out by Everton’s official charity, Halewood International have donated the race name, as well as another to the Hillsborough Family Support Group.

The Hillsborough Families – Fox Hunters’ chase will take place at 3.40pm on Thursday, with the Everton in the Community – Topham Chase set to run at 3.50pm the following afternoon.

The event at Liverpool’s Aintree Racecourse is one of the biggest on the British racing calendar and Peter Eaton, vice-chair of Halewood International, said: “With all the world watching Aintree Racecourse for the Crabbie’s Grand National festival, it is only fitting that as a company with deep roots in Liverpool we use our iconic sponsorship rights to raise awareness of the Hillsborough Family Support Group and Everton In The Community.”

Everton in the Community last year celebrated its 25th birthday and recently announced it had raised £1million during it’s year-long anniversary campaign – funding which will help them continue supporting vulnerable and underprivileged people across Merseyside and beyond.

Dr Denise Barrett-Baxendale, CEO of the charity, added: “I was absolutely thrilled to discover that Everton in the Community has been afforded the opportunity to have a race sponsored in its name at the Crabbie’s Grand National festival. Our thanks go to Halewood International.

“To have our work profiled in this way at the city’s biggest annual sporting event, and alongside the Hillsborough Family Support Group, is particularly pleasing.”
