Chelsea have maintained their lead at the top of the Premier League table after snatching a very late winner against Everton to steal all three points.

The Blues had failed to create any sustained period of pressure during the match, with Roberto Martinez’s Toffees more than holding their own.

However, the pressure tolled in the third minute of stoppage time when captain John Terry found space and was able to steer the ball beyond Tim Howard and into the net.

The strike proved decisive and left Everton feeling heart broken, with the team expecting to take a least a point from their efforts at Stamford Bridge.

They can also feel aggrieved as the free-kick which led to the goal appeared to have been cheaply won by Brazilian midfielder Ramires – causing some controversy.

But it is Chelsea who take the points and maintain their strong showing in the title race, with Arsenal and Manchester City facing a battle to catch them.
