Everton’s unbeaten run went up in smoke after a narrow and frustrating defeat to Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Both sides had been in action in Europe on Thursday, but it was the hosts who were the brighter and fresher-looking side as goals from Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado secured a 2-1 victory.

Kevin Mirallas had given the Blues a dream start, curling home a magnificent strike after just 15 minutes, but errors by Tim Howard and Gareth Barry led to the goals which allowed Spurs to surge ahead before the half-time break.

Everton could not find their rhythm and an equaliser eluded them.

It was the Blues’ first loss since the 2-1 reverse to Manchester United on October 5. They had avoided defeat in their eight games since, but were unable to extend that run to nine today, meaning they slide down to 10th in the Premier League table.
