New Story!! Martinez lauds Barkley

Roberto Martinez has revealed how he was convinced Ross Barkley was ready for a surprise return after the youngster inspired Everton to victory.

Martinez said: “The truth is eight days ago there was no way in my mind it was an option for him to start. But in the last seven days he has worked hard.

“On Thursday, he put the ball into the top corner out of nothing and scored three goals in a little exercise we did.

“It was his way to let everybody know he was ready and was desperate to be on the pitch.”
