Kevin Mirallas will sit out the match against Lille through injury – but he’s already enjoyed a bit of pre-match banter with new Liverpool signing, and Belgian team-mate, Divock Origi.

“We gently wound each other up [after the draw],” Origi said of Mirallas. “He told me they would come here and win. I replied that we won’t let that happen. Kevin is a great guy who gave me his advice on English football.”

Survey results

The results are in, and Everton fans are firmly in favour of a move to Walton Hall Park.

Hundreds of protesters have opposed the plan to build a new stadium on the park, but 81.82% of Blues fans who took part in our online poll want to see it go ahead. Only 11.83% said they would like to remain at Goodison Park, with a further 6.35% undecided.

Ian Snodin is delighted to see the partnership of Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley reunited – and says that the duo can bring the best out of each other on the pitch for the Blues.

Aston Villa’s Tom Cleverley battles for the ball with Everton’s Ross Barkley

He writes: Everyone was delighted to see Ross Barkley back in an Everton FC shirt on Saturday – fans, manager, players – in fact everyone except probably Aston Villa’s tortured defenders!

But the one man who Ross’s return clearly meant the most to was Romelu Lukaku.

The young striker hasn’t hit the ground running this season the way he did last term, but he could probably say with some justification that the service hasn’t been all that great to him either.

That changed on Saturday and you could tell he responded to Barkley’s presence.

“He’s involved, he is training but at the moment we have a lot of games and he needs to fight for his place,” said Martinez.

“He is an important player to the squad but he has been on the sidelines for a long time.

“He is training really well, but just sometimes you need to make the decision on who has looked sharpest in training.”

Baines is an assist machine

They are the words of Gareth Barry, who hailed his team-mate’s performance against Aston Villa after Baines set up two goals for the Blues. Seamus Coleman celebrates his goal against Villa with Leighton Baines Seamus Coleman celebrates his goal against Villa with Leighton Baines

Barry said: “I’ve just mentioned to him, he’s an assist machine, isn’t he?

“He just gets in the right position, pops in the cross and when Seamus is getting on the other end it just shows you the way we want to play.

“Attacking full-backs, one full-back assisting the other is fantastic.”
