We’ll have Ian Snodin’s ECHO column online soon. Snods has been admiring the Blues’ willingness to roll up their sleeves and fight – not always literally – for results recently. I’ll have the link here on the blog soon.

David Unsworth will lead his young Everton charges into international action at Goodison Park tonight.

The former England defender takes charge of Everton Under 21s in their opening match of the new Premier League International Cup.

Celtic are the Blues’ first visitors in a four-team group which also includes Villarreal and Sunderland.

Unsy is looking forward to the challenge – as he tells Dave Prentice here.

Dave Prentice reports this morning that Roberto Martinez will put faith in Everton’s young guns as the Blues face up to a defensive injury crisis.

They have only two fit centre-backs going into a run which will see them play six games in 19 days.

It could lead to call-ups for some of the club’s emerging young defenders.

Martinez said: “We had Tyias Browning on the bench (on Saturday). I feel Tyias Browning is ready to play. I don’t expect John Stones to be far away. By the turn of the year he will be fully fit.

“And if we need to look a little bit deeper into the Under-21s I would rather give opportunities to Brendan Galloway and Matthew Pennington before going into the transfer market.”

Here’s the story in full.
