How much for Dixie?

Imagine, for a moment, Dixie Dean in the Premier League. Imagine him banging in 60 goals in a top-flight season in 2014. Think about what he’d be like with Sky’s cameras watching his goalscoring prowess every week.

Now imagine how much he would cost.

In an era when Angel Di Maria is moving for £60m, Luis Suarez for £75m and Gareth Bale for £80m, how much would you pay for Dixie?

McCarthy injury

Roberto Martinez says Everton must get to the bottom of James McCarthy’s injury problems before they become more serious.

The midfielder had to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad last week with a hamstring problem, a nagging issue this term, and has also missed games with a thigh injury earlier in the season.

Martinez said: “We need to assess it.

“Maybe it’s managing the work he does in training, We need to find the right formula because we need to make sure we don’t get these sort of injuries on a regular basis. He’s a super fit boy and he shouldn’t be picking up these sort of knocks.”
