Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen … and one-time Evertonian don’t forget, now writes a tipping column for BetVictor.

He took six punts at FA Cup third round weekend. Five have been played and he’s currently 3-2 up, including a good 29/10 call that Burnley-Spurs would finish all-square and a decent 11/10 shout on Crystal palace with a -1 goal start against Dover.

His last tip is Everton against West Ham

Michael says ….

Everton v West Ham

It is well documented that it wasn’t the best of Festive periods for Everton but, with home advantage, I can see them just making it through to the 4th Round at the first attempt given the Hammers’ might want to concentrate on consolidating their PL position.

Michael’s recommendation: Everton to win at Evens

Former Everton striker Nick Chadwick has got the Tuesday morning Blues.

Gateshead away on a Tuesday night was more appealing than getting out of bed this morning!!

If you’re seriously superstitious … how about this stat from Steve Johnson’s superb Everton results website.

–  in the last six Jan 6 outings Everton’s record is W4 D2 L0

– overall in our history our record is W9 D2 L2

 – in terms of win percentage (69.2%) that makes January 6th the  5th best date in the calendar for us

And the last time Everton played on this date was in 2001, when Stephen Hughes scored an 81st minute equaliser at Watford and Steve Watson scored a 91st minute winner.

And if I recall correctly, in the early hours of the following morning Duncan Ferguson disturbed burglars trying to raid his Rufford home … and detained them.

But that last entry is for league matches …

When it comes to the FA Cup West Ham are most definitely Everton’s bogey team.

Here’s Everton’s last five fixtures against The Hammers in the Cup

1991 Quarter-final 1-2

1982 third round 1-2

1980 semi-final  1-1, 1-2

1963 5th round 0-1

You need to go all the way back to 1957 for last the last FA Cup success v The Hammers

Even that 1-1 draw saw Brian Kidd sent-off after giving Everton the lead ….

This is just simply bizarre.

Mick Jagger’s ex, Bianca, has campaigned against the new Everton stadium – and claims the internet abuse she received as a result was worse than anything she has ever experienced in a war zone.

Can you see any excess flesh Tim might have been able to shed?

It’s New Year, and I’m sure plenty of you have started diets in January.

But I’m sure you didn’t expect professional footballer and Everton icon Tim Cahill to drop a weight division!

Everton’s favourite Antipodean revealed that a fear for his Socceroos future drove him to drop to his lightest weight in years … 75kgs.

For a man who likes to punch corner flags, that’s middleweight! Link:

He still strikes like a light-heavy mind ….

Morning all. Kenya Peaberry drunk, papers scanned, and as Big Ron from Old Swan used to say … we’re in the Wide Awake Club.

Let’s hope the Toffees are just as lively this evening with a trip to Doncaster Rovers or Bristol City lying in wait for the winners of the third round clash with West Ham.

I’m David Prentice and I’ll be with you all day as Roberto prepares his squad for a match which has assumed must-win status.

There will be plenty of build up during the course of the day, plenty of interviews, stats and video from the archives.
