Do you know what? I’ve just been rewatching that Gosling goal and I’d totally forgotten about ITV and Tic-Tacs interrupting at the crucial moment – so much so they went and did this:

Martinez hails loan moves

Roberto Martinez has hailed the loan moves of young duo Conor McAleny and Conor Grant – and he believes the two youngsters will return to Goodison better players for the time spent away.

“They’re really important moves for both players,” explained Martinez. “As a young footballer, you need to get the right path in order to fulfil your potential.

“I do feel the moves are perfect in terms of the needs of Conor McAleny and Conor Grant and I think they are going to fit well in the teams they are joining.

“Conor Grant is going into the SPL, which is a completely different league and a very interesting one for a young player. He will face some really high profile games with the likes of Celtic and other important games.

“Then, there will be other games where he will be able to experiment in finding a way of winning football games.

“Conor McAleny has had a really stop-start season, so it was very important for him to get some playing time and I think Cardiff is the perfect environment.

“They have been following him for a while and it’ll be good for him to have Matty Kennedy there as well, who has left on a permanent basis.”

Kevin Mirallas was never going to leave Everton

Roberto Martinez says Kevin Mirallas was never going to leave Everton in the transfer window.

“No, that was never even a consideration,” he said. “We worked really hard to try and get Aaron Lennon to Everton and that was the only deal we were focused on.

“I feel he is the type of player that can really fit into the way we want to play.  We now have really good competition and when Christian Atsu comes back from the Africa Cup of Nations I do feel we will be strong in wide areas.”

Toffees want Tom

News broke yesterday that Everton are looking to bring in Tom Cleverley from Manchester United at the end of the season.

He’s currently on loan at Villa but is available on a free transfer and he’s said to be keen on a move to Everton.

Roberto Martinez has worked with Cleverley before at Wigan and is ready to move for the England international.

Martinez: Our squad is stronger now

Roberto Martinez believes Everton’s squad is stronger after the January transfer window.

He says the addition of Aaron Lennon – and sale of Samuel Eto’o – has put the Blues in a better position.

“I do, because the situation of Samuel, we were always in a position where each window we were going to assess the situation,” Martinez said, when asked if he felt the squad was stronger than it was before the start of the window.

“Samuel has been a real positive for us in the first-half of the season, scoring four goals and the influence he had in Europe.

“We have now brought in Aaron Lennon who has got incredible experience and is at the peak of his powers as a player, at the age of 27.

“And we have got Arouna Kone fully fit and Romelu Lukaku is fully fit and in great condition.

“So I feel the squad is well balanced and strong everywhere.”
