Everton are playing QPR at the wrong time – that’s according to Blues boss Roberto Martinez, who reckons Harry Redknapp’s men have clicked into gear after a difficult start.

Roberto Martinez Roberto Martinez

He said: “QPR had a little bit of a difficult start because obviously when you get new players you’re trying to find the right combinations.

“I think Harry Redknapp now has found the right formula and they are in the best moment of their season. They’ve been unfortunate in a couple of games, I think they should have had more points than what they’ve got.

“I know they’ve got Charlie Austin missing for this game but I think this group are in a good moment and we respect them hugely.

“I’ve always admired Harry Redknapp as a manager with his experience and his management skills and know-how.”

Europa League draw

The Europa League draw takes place at midday today. We will have live coverage of that right here and all the analysis of whomever the Blues draw from our team of sports writers.

The Toffees have played their most impressive football this season in Europe, and with a Champions League berth awaiting this season’s winners, the Blues have a huge incentive to go out an win the competition.

The fans were right to boo

Leighton Baines says he understands Everton fans’ frustrations – and says supporters were right to boo after the recent Goodison draw with Hull City.

The England defender says that Everton must ensure they beat QPR this evening and begin to climb the Premier League table.

He said: “Putting myself in a fan’s shoes the performance on the night against Hull wasn’t good enough. But it’s not just that, because we get supported very well, it’s accumulated frustration.

“Every week you’re seeing others slipping up; Liverpool, Arsenal. You see people dropping points and just think, ‘If we can just win we’ll go above them, and so on.’.”
