Martinez: We’re desperate for a win…

Roberto Martinez says his struggling side desperately need a victory – any kind of victory – to kick-start their season.

“It is important to get a win because that confidence you get with good results you can’t get anywhere else,” he said.

“The character shown in coming back against Manchester City was terrific and the work-rate we have shown in the last two performances, especially being down to 10 men, shows the personality and character we have in the group.

“Now it is about getting the confidence at a better level to get that win which would give us a real kick for the second half of the season.

“The signs from the group, they are very good. Looking at the players who are going to come back soon it will be well timed.

“We have nine games left at home and our agenda is to be perfect in every game at Goodison.

“We were perfect against Manchester City and we expect to carry that on against West Brom.

“It is a game we really want to perform well in and start the period we have in front of us in a good way.”

The players Everton should watch at the Africa Cup of Nations 2015

The Africa Cup of Nations begins today with the Blues on-loan winger Christian Atsu featuring Ghana but should Everton’s scouts be on the look out, who should they be taking an interest in?

Kristian Walsh looks at:

  1. Rais M’Bolhi (Algeria)

  2. Seydou Doumbia (Ivory Coast)

  3. Yannick Bolasie (Congo)

  4. Baba Rahman (Ghana)

Barry Horne: Hunger to play from Samuel Eto’o is commendable

Barry Horne has been speaking about Samuel Eto’o’s imminent departure and he writes…

I felt that Samuel Eto’o would have something to offer when he joined Everton FC .

Everything about him suggested he was a very honourable person and a good professional.

He seems popular around the club and has made telling contributions this season; albeit often in cameo roles and flashes.

Talk of his possible departure has come out of the blue for me and comes as a great surprise.

Martinez to discuss Eto’o plans this weekend…

Roberto Martinez will meet Samuel Eto’o this weekend to discover his plans as the striker edges closer to leaving Everton, according to the Mail.

Everton’s manager gave him permission to travel to the Middle East, where he has an offer from Qatari side Al Gharafa.

The three-time Champions League winner is also the subject of strong interest from Sampdoria and his agent, Claudio Vigorelli, claimed he has agreed a deal to move to Genoa, despite a lucrative offer from Brazilian side Santos.

Tim Cahill

Former Everton favourite Tim Cahill posts the following Tweet after hosts Australia lose to South Korea today in the Asian Cup. Cahill’s Aussie side will now face China in the quarter-finals in Brisbane on Thursday.

We win together and we lose together. Always proud of my team and we will now focus on quarter finals against China pic.twitter.com/9Kd0Px92m5

Seamus Coleman

Some mischief on the web today with pictures of Everton’s marauding right-back Seamus Coleman wearing a Manchester United shirt. The Irish international who was in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year last season is rumoured to be a possible target for Louis van Gaal but the photograph in question is of the now 26-year-old Coleman as a teenager! We can dig out the snap of Steven Gerrard as a nipper in an Everton kit if we’re going to play that game.

Christian Atsu

Christian Atsu (front row, third from right) is excited by the start of the African Cup of Nations today. Everton’s on-loan winger is poised for action on Monday when his Ghana side take on Sengegal.
