John Ebbrell has returned to Everton FC as an Academy coach.

The ex-Blues midfielder joins the pool of coaches who work with the club’s youth teams at Finch Farm.

Ebbrell returns to Goodison Park from Tranmere Rovers where his most recent post was Head of Academy Coaching.

The Everton favourite made over 250 appearances for the Toffees and was part of the squad that won the FA Cup in 1995.

Ebbrell came through the ranks at Everton and was with the first-team for 10 years before moving to Sheffield United.

The 45-year-old joins other former Blues, Kevin Sheedy, Duncan Ferguson and David Unsworth in the coaching staff.

Ebbrell made a total of 265 appearances for Everton and scored 19 goals before moving to Sheffield United.

However an ankle injury restricted him to just one appearance for the Yorkshire club before he was forced to retire in 1999.

Tranmere’s Head of Youth Development, Shaun Garnett was full of praise of the work Ebbrell has done at Prenton Park.

Garnett said: “Can I thank John Ebbrell who unfortunately has left the club to take up a similar position at Everton.

“John has been with the academy for the last 5 years and was an important member of the team that allowed us to achieve our Category 3 status 2 years ago and has worked extremely hard to improve the academy.

“We all wish John the best of luck in the next chapter of his coaching career.”
