American says Arsenal victory had been brewing for some time.

Tim Howard believes Everton’s ‘blockbusting’ 3-0 victory over Arsenal had been brewing for some time.

The Blues have proved ultra-reliable at home this season, winning 12 of their league games and recouping 39 points out of the 48 available.

And American stopper Howard has admitted he’s long sensed one of the top-flight’s elite were due to be ripped apart at Goodison.

“It was one of the signature performances since I have been here at Everton,” the 35-year-old told evertontv. “The way we controlled the game, scored the goals and kept it clean at the back, I thought it was a brilliant performance.

“The fans were vocal, they were up for it. They knew what it meant going into the game and if we could take three points then we would be hot on their tails.

“They have waited all season for a blockbuster performance – they have got a few – but this was definitely the one.”

Indeed, six straight league victories, coupled with Arsenal’s dip in form, has put Everton on the cusp of overtaking the Gunners in the league table.

Arsene Wenger’s side were 12 points ahead of the Blues in February but that deficit has now been wiped down to just one.

Arsenal are in FA Cup semi-final action this weekend, meaning a victory for Roberto Martinez’s men at Sunderland would see the Toffees move into fourth.

Everton then play their game in hand against Crystal Palace next Wednesday evening [16 April, 7.45pm (Free £25 bet offer) Kick-off].

And asked if the Toffees’ Champions League dream has a serious chance of becoming a reality, Howard added: “We would like to think so.

“We have to believe that because we are running out of games.”

Manchester United is already a confirmed sell out.
