One fan sat close to the dugout came in fancy dress – with a Paddy Power shirt – and was waving his scythe in the direction of the pitch as the game began.

David Moyes received a smattering of boos on his return to Goodison Park.

The United boss was in the opposition dugout at the ground for the first time since ending his 11-year spell in charge of the Toffees last summer.

Despite an impressive tenure at Everton, some fans took objection to Moyes’ transfer activity last summer and while the reaction was far from terrible there were some boos as he arrived.

One fan took things further, dressing up as the Grim Reaper in his seat behind the dugout and waving an inflatable scythe at the Reds manager as the game started.

The man was wearing a Paddy Power shirt and was asked to leave midway through the first half.

It’s not the first publicity stunt from the betting firm regarding United this season; in January they placed a waxwork of Sir Alex Ferguson outside Old Trafford with a sign saying: In case of emergency break glass
