Everton have made tentative enquiries about Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford, according to the Mail.

Blues boss Roberto Martinez remains intent on bolstering his strikeforce as well as searching out a centre-back and a playmaker.

Bamford, 21, has had several English and Spanish clubs asking about his plans after an impressive season at Middlesbrough where he scored 19 goals.

Staying with the Mail, Everton have suffered a setback in their supposed pursuit of Marseille wide man Dimitri Payet.

The Toffees have been linked with the French international but it is now claimed West Ham are in pole position for the £12m-rated man.

The Hammers have drafted a four year deal worth around £70,000 a week.

Reports in Turkey, meanwhile, claim Everton will find out at the end of the month whether they can step up their pursuits for Mehmet Topal – but they may face competition from rivals Liverpool.

The Fenerbahce midfielder is due to hold talks over a new contract with the Istanbul club later this week and Eurosport TR are claiming that he will be offered a five-year deal.

But they claim the Merseyside duo will be ready to pounce should Topal’s talks with Fenerbahce stall, while Manchester City and Tottenham have also expressed an interest in the 29-year-old.

And finally, Charlton Athletic have snapped up the ‘new Mark Bosnich’, reportedly beating Everton to the punch.

The Sevenoaks Chronicle Australian teenage keeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer has joined the Championship club, with the 15-year-old turning down a chance to join the Blues.
