Everton FC transfer news today sees Kevin Mirallas reportedly putting contract talks on hold until July.
The Belgian, who is wanted by Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid, will have 11 months left on his Blues deal with Everton having the option of extending the in-form winger’s contract by another year.
Roberto Martinez claims he is not worried though, insisting Everton can recover from their lowly position in the table to prove they can attain his long-term goal of a top-four finish.
“Kevin is on a long-term contract,” said the Everton boss. “It’s not as if his contract is up at the end of the season.
Players Everton have been linked with signing
“I think the conversation was taken out of context a little bit and Kevin is delighted and happy with his football.
“But I think it’s only normal to see where we are as a football club before he signs a new contract or decides what he wants to do. It’s normal. I don’t see him not doing anything now as a sign of anything.
“We haven’t changed. Our ambition is to get into the Champions League. Of course, we’ve been in a massive dip and it’s going to be hard to achieve that in the league.
“But as a football club, we have not changed at all our long-term ambition. The long-term ambition is to get into the Champions League and we will carry on working towards that.”
Samuel Eto’o is set to leave Goodison says his agent
Samuel Eto’o is leaving Everton after less than five months to join Sampdoria, claims his agent.
His representative Claudio Vigorelli says Eto’o has rejected a more lucrative offer from Brazilian side Santos to agree a return to Italy for a nominal £1million fee.
The Cameroon striker, who scored four goals for the Toffees, is understood to have flown to the Middle East this week for talks with a club there, but Vigorelli says he has chosen to move to Sampdoria in Genoa to be nearer his family.
“He’s chosen Genoa and he’s really motivated,” he said. “In the last few hours, an offer arrived from Santos, which was greater from a financial viewpoint, but he isn’t interested in it.
“His family lives in Milan and he dreams of playing in such a passionate place like Genoa to finish his career.
“He’s going to live in Genoa and is not going to commute between Milan and Genoa, like I’ve heard there being talk of him doing. He’s a great professional and has done well wherever he has been.”
Manchester United want Everton’s Seamus Coleman
Finally, Manchester United have reportedly held talks over a possible deal to sign Everton star Seamus Coleman.
Old Trafford chiefs met yesterday to discuss whether to make a swoop for the 26-year-old Irishman this month.
Louis van Gaal knows strengthening his defence is a priority and Coleman has caught the eye as a marauding right-back for the Toffees.
The United boss has already spent over £150m since taking charge but still thinks he’s short of having a good enough side to win the title.
Everton bought Coleman for just £60,000 from Sligo Rovers and they now value him at around £25m.
