Roberto Martinez
Joe Rimmer

Roberto Martinez is coming up on TalkSport very shortly, I’ll bring you updates of what he has to say (I’m sure it will involve many “phenomenals) – for now, here’s Kristian Walsh’s five things we learned from yesterday’s game.

They are:

  1. Lennon’s hard work just rewards
  2. Kiev horror show miles away
  3. Kone still a square peg
  4. The Blues aren’t going down
  5. Osman makes a vital difference

Everton learn to win ugly

Phil Kirkbride says Everton finally learned to win ugly at QPR yesterday – and Roberto Martinez wasn’t complaining.

Phil says that, while the Blues weren’t exactly enjoyable to watch, it turned out to be one of the most important wins of Martinez’s reign.

He writes: “This was not the beautiful game.

“This was the ugly side. The dogged and gritty face of top flight football. The alternative way of doing things.

“It certainly wasn’t enjoyable to watch and not played with the style and panache that Roberto Martinez brought to Everton, or that he hopes to make second nature.

“But at the end of a scrappy and uncultured affair, starved of quality, the Blues boss offered an unequivocal assessment of what he saw.

“”One of my most satisfying wins” Martinez declared – it was one of the most important he has ever had too.”
