“I think one of the biggest moments in Australian sports history could be created if we can do something special,’’ Cahill said.

“So we need to go into this World Cup with the belief that there is going to be an upset.

“If we can get that result, it will change the face of Australian football for a long time.

“Everyone says you’re so lucky you’re going to Brazil, but we’re not going there to have fun, we’re not going to see Brazil, we’re not going to leave our hotelrooms.

“We didn’t see any of Germany. We were lucky to see a bit of South Africa, but this World Cup I’ll be happy to see nothing.

“I want to see the stadiums of our first three games and get any sort of points to hopefully create something special for Australia.’’

“I cannot allow myself to believe,” Baines said.

“You have to keep on your toes and not get complacent because if you don’t do the right things then you are not going to be playing.

“Things can change very quickly so I think whoever starts the first game in the tournament has to do the job otherwise they are not going to stay in the team.”
