Everton FC made their return to European competition in style, with a resounding 4-1 victory over Wolfsburg, of Germany.

Ricardo Rodriguez opened the scoring at the wrong end for the visitors as he turned Steven Naismith’s shot into his own goal. Seamus Coleman nodded in a second on the stroke of half-time.

Leighton Baines added a third from a penalty just minutes after the restart and Kevin Mirallas was sent through on goal by Samuel Eto’o to score the four.

Rodriguez scored a wonderful free-kick with the game’s final kick to cruelly deny Tim Howard a deserved clean sheet.
