Roberto Martinez has hailed his side for their gutsy display to secure three points at Fulham.

The Blues sealed their fifth consecutive league victory courtesy of three second half goals against a beligerant Fulham side battling for their Premier League lives.

Substitutes Steven Naismith, Kevin Mirallas and Aiden McGeady were the architects of the win, with Mirallas and Naismith netting the second and third goals after Ashkan Dejagah equalised the David Stockdale own goal that had set the Blues on their way.

Martinez told evertonfc.com: “The performance was as pleasing as you are going to get.

“We never gave up and kept an important clean sheet in the first half and that allowed us to regroup. We then saw a performance full of guts and determination and a never-say-die attitude which is needed as the platform in any winning team. I couldn’t be prouder and doing it in front of our fans, who were incredible, makes it a very satisfying day.”

All three goals were scored in front of the massive contingent of travelling Blues. And the late show to seal the win after Dejagah’s equaliser was doubly satisfying for Martinez because his squad had to overcome the fatigue of a gruelling midweek victory over Newcastle United.

He added: “Today was a really difficult challenge and we need to give huge credit to Fulham’s performance. The way they started the game, they were brighter and sharper than us and more energetic. We had to cope with the mental fatigue of playing Newcastle in midweek while Fulham had extra time of recovery.”

The win takes Everton to within four points of the Champions League places with seven games left to play – and fourth placed Arsenal the next visitors to Goodison.
