Now Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson has revealed an announcement will be made within the next few months.

Asked about Liverpool council’s ongoing talks with Everton, he said: “We are having positive discussions and I think that within a matter of a few months we will have some announcement to make – and I’m sure that will be before the start of the new season.
“There are still one or two sites we are working through. We are supporting them as much as we can and we are meeting more or less on a weekly basis.”
A move from Goodison has been on the cards for years but previous plans have been plagued by setbacks, mainly funding problems.
Proposals for a 55,000-seat ground in the Kings Dock were rejected more than 10 years ago, then the Government vetoed plans for a new stadium in Kirkby in 2009.
Mayor Anderson said any new Blues ground would have to be a “viable proposition for the club and for the whole city”.
James Asquith, from the Everton FC Shareholders’ Association, said: “The club can’t afford to buy land and build a new stadium. But it could redevelop Goodison.
“The only reason we seem to be talking about a completely new stadium is because someone else will be putting up the money.
“I am not completely against having a new stadium but, whatever happens, we need to make sure Everton is the prime mover and not just part of someone else’s scheme.”
